My Methodology

By Spela Budic · Checked 3 Nov 2026 · 18+

Seven checks per casino, how I rank sources and handle conflicts, and what I never do.

My method in numbers

  • Three small vintage arcade cabinets side by side with glowing screens in coral, cream, and rose on a dark wine charcoal backg
    7 Checks for every casino
  • Glossy 3D icon of a vintage arcade cabinet with a coral-red padlock on a chain across its blank screen on dark background
4 Tiers of sources, regulators first
  • Premium 3D glossy icon of an open coral-red gift box with cream coins and glowing sparks rising from it on a deep wine backgr
1x Re-check every month at least
  • Premium glossy 3D chrome and coral hourglass with glowing coral sand, soft coral rim light on deep wine charcoal background
A$ Every amount in Australian dollars
  • Two glossy coral-red 3D dice with cream glowing pips, one slightly tilted, on a deep wine charcoal background with coral rim
0 Deposits made for these guides

In short (updated 3 November 2026)

  • I check every casino on the same seven points, starting with who runs it and ending with what players report.
  • Every figure on this site has a source and a check date. When sources disagree, I show both.
  • I do not deposit, play or withdraw for these guides, and affiliate links never change a verdict.

Who does the research

I am Spela Budic, editor of Golden Crown Alternatives, and I research and write every page myself. My reviewer profile is on Trustpilot; more about me is on my author page.

How I rank sources

  1. 01Regulators and official records. Licence registers, ACMA announcements and company registers come first.
  2. 02The casino's own terms. T&Cs, bonus terms and the FAQ, read as written.
  3. 03Established review sites. casino.org, gambling.com, LCB, AskGamblers: used for cashier tables and terms I cannot see from Australia.
  4. 04Player reports. Trustpilot and complaint boards, always with the review count and the domain, because look-alike domains are common.

I do not use pages hosted on unrelated domains, spun articles or the casino’s own Trustpilot descriptions as evidence.

How I handle conflicting sources

When two sources disagree, I show both and say which gives which, rather than picking the more convenient number. For Golden Crown this affects three facts:

FactWhat the sources sayHow I show it
OwnerMetlait SRL (casino.org) or Hollycorn N.V. (the casino’s legal pages)Both names, with the source
LicenceTobique 0000064, Curaçao OGL/2023/176/0095 or 8048/JAZ2019-015All three, marked unconfirmed
First-deposit bonusUp to A$15,000 + 300 FS, or A$1,500 + 300 FS on some AU pagesThe casino.org figure, with the conflict noted

Currency

Every amount on this site is in Australian dollars. When a source quotes another currency, I convert at the day’s reference rate, round, and say so on the page. Golden Crown uses the same tier numbers in every account currency, so I show its figures in A$ at face value and note it.

Dates and re-checks

Each page shows the date I last checked it. I re-check every casino at least once a month and whenever its terms change, and the newer source always wins.

What I do not do

  • I do not deposit, play or withdraw for these guides, so I never claim a test I did not run.
  • I do not publish mirror addresses, numbered domains, VPN advice or ways around ACMA blocks.
  • I do not invent ratings, scores, player numbers or quotes.
  • I do not call a casino a scam without evidence; I report documented complaints instead.

How I choose the alternatives

An alternative has to name a company and a licence number, publish its bonus and withdrawal terms, accept Australians or AUD, and differ from Golden Crown in a way that matters to a player. That is why Aerobet (sportsbook, lower wagering), MateSlots (AUD accounts) and Winberry (tournaments) are on this site, and why I mark Winberry’s Australian access as “checking”.

How the site is paid for

Some buttons are affiliate links: if you sign up through them, the site may earn a commission at no cost to you. That never changes a figure, the order of facts or a verdict, and no casino sees or edits a page before it is published.

Corrections

If you spot a figure that is out of date, the newer source wins and I note the change on the page with its date.

Methodology: FAQ

  • Do you play at the casinos you review?

No. I research regulator records, published terms and review sites; I do not deposit, play or withdraw for these guides.

  • How do you choose the alternatives?

They must name a company and licence, publish bonus and withdrawal terms, take Australians or AUD, and differ usefully from Golden Crown.

  • What do you do when sources disagree?

I show both values and say which source gives which, as with Golden Crown’s owner and licence.

  • Why are some cells marked "checking"?

Because I could not confirm the fact from a reliable source yet. I would rather say so than guess.

  • How often are figures updated?

At least monthly, and whenever a casino changes its terms. Each page shows its check date.

  • Do affiliate links change your verdicts?

No. They pay for the site, but no casino sees or edits a page before it is published.

  • Which sources do you trust most?

Regulator registers and official announcements first, then the casino’s own terms, then established review sites, then player reports with their review counts.

  • Do you accept payment from casinos to review them?

No. Some buttons are affiliate links that pay commission on sign-ups, but no casino pays for a review or sees a page before it is published.

  • How do you convert currencies?

At the day’s reference rate, rounded, with a note on the page. Golden Crown uses the same numbers in every currency, so I show them in A$ at face value.

  • Why do you not rate casinos with stars?

Because I do not deposit or play for these guides, a star score would be invented. I show facts with sources instead.

Editor and casino researcher, Golden Crown Alternatives

I am Spela Budic, editor of Golden Crown Alternatives. I compare Golden Crown with offshore casinos that Australians look at instead, using only what a reader can check: the company and licence claims behind each brand, regulator records, the bonus terms as written, payment methods, withdrawal limits in A$, and what review sites and players report. I date every figure, keep conflicting sources side by side and re-read the terms each month. I do not deposit or play for these guides, and affiliate links never change a verdict. My reviewer profile is on Trustpilot.
